Looking for a fun way to connect families through creativity? Join us for a musical experience where parents, children, and friends get to jam together!
Join acclaimed musician and music educator, Monte Skelton, for an interactive instrumental music program designed to bring families together. Inspired by the playful spirit of Acoustic Rooster and his Barnyard Band, this year’s program is all about collaboration—showing how different sounds, and different people, create something amazing when they work together.
LEARN: Discover how sounds—and people—connect! We’ll kick things off with a massive "Audience Storm" (get ready to stomp, snap, and clap together!), then meet the different "families" of instruments. Monte will demonstrate how winds, strings, and electronics like the EWI work together, using live-looping technology to layer them into a full "musical family."
BUILD: How do we turn individual ideas into a team effort? You won't just watch—you'll participate! In our new "Parent-Child Loop Challenges," volunteers will hop on stage to record sounds and build a song live with Monte. It’s a firsthand look at how every voice matters in the creative process.
PLAY! This is where the real bonding happens! After enjoying the performance, the event concludes with a hands-on instrument building session. But this year, we’re making "Partner Instruments"—creations designed to be played together! Families will leave with handmade instruments and the inspiration to keep the band playing at home.

EVPL West
Located at 2000 W Franklin St., EVPL West was one of three original libraries built in Evansville with funds donated by Andrew Carnegie. Along with EVPL East, it was dedicated and opened to the public on January 1, 1913. Renovated in 2003, the building is surrounded by a park-like setting that is home to annual events like the Farmer’s Market and West Side Nut Club Fall Festival. EVPL West features a spacious meeting room, public access computers, and comfortable adult and youth areas.
