A Candace Fleming Book Discussion Series

Explore the work of acclaimed author Candace Fleming in this multi-session book discussion series showcasing both historical fiction and narrative nonfiction. Known for her vivid storytelling and deep historical research, Fleming brings real people, events, and moments from the past to life in ways that are engaging, thought-provoking, and accessible.

Each session will focus on one of Fleming's books, examining the historical background behind the story, the real events and figures that inspired it, and the ways both fiction and nonfiction can help readers connect with the past. Participants will have the opportunity to share perspectives, ask questions, and take part in thoughtful conversation about the themes and history explored in each book. The series will lead up to our SPEAK event featuring Candace Fleming on September 17th, offering the opportunity to hear directly from the author about her research, writing process, and the stories that shaped her work.

July 31st-Amelia Lost: the Life and Disappearance of Amelia Earhart

August 7th-The Great and Only Barnum: the Tremendous, Stupendous, Life of Showman P.T. Barnum

August 14th-On the Day I Died: Stories from the Grave

August 21st-The Rise and Fall of Charles Lindbergh

August 28th: Death in the Jungle: Murder, Betrayal, and the Lost Dream of Jonestown

September 4th: Murder Among Friends: How Leopold and Loeb Tried to Commit the Perfect Crime

September 11th: The Family Romanov: Murder, Rebellion, and the Fall of Imperial Russia

About the branch

Located at 840 E. Chandler Ave., EVPL East was one of three original libraries built in Evansville with funds donated by Andrew Carnegie. Along with EVPL West, it was dedicated and opened to the public on January 1, 1913. Renovated in 2003, the building is surrounded by a park-like setting and features a spacious meeting room, public access computers, and comfortable adult and youth areas.
